Hello, friends! Okay, so this post has quickly become one of my favorite things to share with you all! This past Saturday, my sweet friend Hope agreed to set out on an adventure with me so I could check an item off my Life Bucket List, #7: Watch a sunset at Konza Prairie! Gosh, I love this place so much. I have been out there several times throughout college & middle school field trips, but I have never managed to catch the sunset! If you’re ever planning a visit to Kansas, this is a must see. Konza Prairie is nestled in the Flint Hills, a short ten minute drive from K-State. An area rich in history and beauty, Konza is home to lovely hiking trails, scenic views, educational opportunities (hence field trips) and even an old homestead that dates back to the 19th Century. You can check out the Konza Prairie website for tons more info about the area, including trail maps. I could go on and on about this amazing place, but I’m thinking y’all would like to see some pictures!
Upon entering the hiking area, you’ll find two bridges that will take you across Kings Creek to the main trails. Hope and I got a treat when we found a deer in the field super close to the first bridge! It is amazing how many animals you can see here! We also saw turkeys on our way in, and another deer as we walked along- definitely a great place for children and families looking for this type of experience.
As we ventured on, I stopped a snapped a few pictures of the sights in the flower department. So simple, yet so pretty. Can we also talk about the fact that the flowers are purple and white?! Go Cats! Now onto the top of the hills… 🙂
Our first look at the top! We had about an hour to spend sitting, relaxing and laughing until sunset. With the temperature sitting right at 100 degrees, we made sure to pack lots of water and snacks! More views from the top, simply amazing. I am loving the sun and colors in this photo! Konza is the definition of peaceful, serenity. An escape from the hustle and bustle of the day to day, we capitalized on the sheer quietness. I’ve been reading The Jesus-Hearted Woman by Jodi Detrick- loved getting to read this while soaking in the beauty of God’s gifts of nature. I highly recommend this book for any young professional gal out there getting her start in the real world! As sunset approached, we grew more eager with anticipation of the views!
As cheesy as it sounds, this is was one of those moments of pure and true joy when you just take a second, breath and remember how truly special this world is.
Thanks for coming along on our journey, I’m looking forward to the next adventure and the next bucket list item! 🙂 Where are your adventures taking you this summer? I’d love to hear!!
